These associations are a contemporary interpretation through Yorùbá cosmological ideas — not a claim that this exact four-strand arrangement was prescribed in antiquity.

Across Yorùbá artistic and religious traditions, beadwork has carried beauty, rank, devotion, identity and symbolic meaning.
Ilé-Ifẹ̀ became an important center of sophisticated bead and glass production centuries ago, leaving behind material evidence of extraordinary craftsmanship.
